Eyes Like Pies

When you get a pair of silly eye glasses at school, it is a great day!

Zucchini Bread

This year I broke the first commandment of vegetable gardening: Thou shalt plant only one zucchini.

I planted three seeds, but we had a sprinkler snafu so they didn't come up. So I bought a pot (with two plants) but when we fixed the drip, one of the seeds sprouted. Fortunately, they were self staggered, so it was almost manageable. But even I was ready for something besides grilled zukes. So on to zucchini bread.

Gotta love taking a vegetable and then drowning anything healthy about it in sugar, oil and chocolate chips! Still counts as a vegetable, right?

The recipe said,"Prep Time: 15 minutes" but it should have said "Add 15 minutes for every additional helper." After 50 minutes of quality time with Megan and Liam, we finally had two loaves ready to go in the oven! And two kids ready to go in the bath! (gotta love the flour on Liam's brow!)

Home Alone

This weekend Mac took the kids to LA to see his family and I had four glorious days by myself. I did a lot of cooking and consumed more veggies than we would have if the whole family had been here. But mostly, I just enjoyed the things I don't get to have when Mac and the kids are around: peace, quiet, a long shower, mushrooms - you get the idea.

Mac and the kids had lots of fun, too, visiting family and doing LOTS of swimming.

Loving Day

Last weekend Megan picked a bouquet (which is pretty much her favorite activity), but when she brought them in the house she said,"These are for you, because today is Loving Day." Only it turns out Loving Day lasted all week, because the Loving Day flowers were still alive, so Megan has been making "I love you" cards all week for everyone in the family.

Happy Loving Day (Week)

The Parents

Look: a picture of me and Mac together with no kids. It may be the only one in the last four years!

Sunday (Aug. 2nd) while my parents were here, Mac and I joined some friends at the Gordon House fundraiser in Silverton. I didn't know what to expect, but this was a great event: wine tasting, sample dishes from many area restaurants, free tour of the Gordon House, and an auction (we even bid!) all for $25. Plus, did I mention there were no kids (and we had free babysitting)! It was delightful.

Haircut

When my parents were up here the first week of August, they brought their clippers so Goldilocks got a haircut.

I can't believe how much older he looks!
